Rays of Sunshine
So, for those who were curious. I got the job that I previously applied for. I’m really excited about this. But it also means that blogging has slowed down – you may have already noticed. The hiring process involves a lot of question answering, phone talking and person meeting. Basically, a lot of my time.
Something else happened, a close family member of mine passed away. So I haven’t really been feeling all that blog-ish – despite being gifted a tablet that I didn’t deserve by a beautiful friend that I love to pieces. I have come to find that the grieving process goes in cycles. Sometimes I’m totally fine and I can work on my course work without a problem. Sometimes I just break down and cry. I was advised to keep busy while I process this, so I will force myself to do things that normally entertain me in an attempt to distract myself (exhibit A: blogging). But at the end of the day, and really at the start of it too, I am alone and a giant mess of feels.
This happening has really put a lot of things in perspective for me. I know I couldn’t have known it was going to happen, but when it did, I really took in the responses people gave me. Without trying to sound like a complete asshole, and I mean really I don’t give a fuck if I do, I know now who supports me and who doesn’t. Thanks for giving up on me, it made it easier for the both of us. Today I have realized that I don’t have any guilt left to give, just anger.
Going back to that previous comment, the one about blogging slowing down. I’ve been recently nominated by my peers for some awards. I am always honored when someone does this, but as of recently, I haven’t had a lot of time to respond to those posts. So this is my shout out, don’t let my lack of response make you feel ignored – I haven’t forgotten you – my head just isn’t fully in the game. Ya feel? I hope so. This message goes out to Teepee12, Annie, and Sheen Meem – you guys already know you’re cool, just bare with me on my slowness.
Anyway, to avoid this post becoming a giant hunk of lame, I’d like to throw fun things at your faces.
For one, my homeboy (people still say that, right?) CulturedLeftPeg AKA My Nurf Herder AKA North Wales King of Popty Ping, brought to my attention the coolest of news – Ben and Jerry’s ice cream announced they’re going to be making an Anchorman 2 themed flavor called “Scotchy Scotch Scotch.” I’ve never been happier, I swear. Here’s what it looks like:
Also here’s a little kid running around in a light Halloween costume. I like it. It makes me “aaaaaaaaw”
Also, my Canadian friend sent me a super boss song, I wanted to share it with you all. I’ve listened to it a couple million times already…lol
Sorry this post sucks, here’s a pikachu eating a burger.
I MADE A VIDEO
I made a video about the coolness of my tablet!
It’s really short but I wanted to show you guys why I love it so much – it makes MS Paint drawings faster and the new programs that I plan on using for future doodles are so amazing! (Namely ArtRage) <3
Sorry for sounding like a super giddy little boy, I just haven’t been able to put this tablet down for the past two days.
I NEED PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND WHY I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Yaaaay, a new post featuring drawings from the new programs will happen tomorrow. I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!
Here is a slightly more detailed speed doodle:
Pretentious Foodie Bullshit
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!! I SWEAR NO ONE TELLS ME ANYTHING!! Just saiyan.
So apparently this glorious piece of youtube happened, and no one told me about it. So I’m telling you about it, cause I think its hilarious!!!
KIAM YOU BETTER WATCH THIS!
When I figure out how to tag people in wordpress, its going down.
Dinosaurs and how my childhood is a lie, again…
“Forget Extinct: The Brontosaurus Never Even Existed” – NPR destroys my childhood again
So when I was a little kid I fucking loved dinosaurs, a lot. I remember a lot of the VHS tapes my brother and I used to watch were like old school claymation where like my little dino friends were brought to life. 1990s technology, got to love it. Let’s not forget LAND BEFORE TIME. That had a lot of replay potential. Little Foot was all over them prehistoric valleys.
Now an article from NPR is bringing to light the BONE WARS [real name, I did not make this shit up]!!!! Apparently, like 130 years ago, two paleontologists, Yale’s O.C. Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope, decided it was a good idea to play a macho game of “Name that Dino the fastest!” I imagine two scientists running back and forth in giant dirt pits while Benny Hill plays in the background. Instead of putting a lot of effort into analyzing the credibility of their findings, they were more in it for the fame, cause they’re dicks. I know, that’s harsh to say…I didn’t know them personally. I’m sure they were lovely people who thought a BONE WAR would be a fun idea…
Anyway, long story short (TL;DR), in 1877 Yale Marsh discovers this cool long-neck, long-tail, veggie dino which he names the Apatosaurus, problem is that it was missing a head. Fast forward to 1883 Marsh substitutes the head of a Camarasaurus to make the skeleton complete. In 1888 Marsh gets another completed dino skeleton that he thinks is a different dino, CAUSE HE CAN’T TAKE TWO SECONDS TO LOOK AT THE DAMN SKELETON, and he decides to name it a Brontosaurus. Spoilers, it wasn’t a different dino, it was a more complete Apatosaurus.
The thing that really bugs me, is that in 1903 someone finally decides to point out that there was a mistake made. But its not until the 1970s when Carnegie scientists publically announced and verified the mistake. So, SCIENTISTS FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS A MISTAKE BUT THEY JUST FUCKING LET IT KEEP GOING! WTF??? Like, instead of being like, “hey guys, this is wrong, we should correct this” they went “lol, who cares” so now its in children’s books and Jurassic Park and life.
OH BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE!
Remember the Triceratops? I loved those guys, they were so cool! Welp, here’s an article entitled “The Triceratops Never Existed, It Was Actually a Young Version Of Another Dinosaur” …. WTFFFFF? Yeah, that’s what John Scannella and Jack Horner are saying. These two scientists think that the Torosaurus and Triceratops are really the same species.
My first thought is, wait, you mean this guy?
But then I re-read what it says lol… its TOROSAURUS…not Totorosaurus.
Quotes from the Article:
as a Triceratops aged, its horns and frill became more similar to that of a Torosaurus. Short becomes long, saw-edged becomes smoothed and so on. Having them be the same species would explain why there were never any young Torosaurus fossils discovered.
there is a clear transition from triceratops into torosaurus as the animals grow older. For example, the oldest specimens of triceratops show a marked thinning of the bone where torosaurus has holes, suggesting they are in the process of becoming fenestrated.
Gad damn it. There goes my childhood.
Sorry Little Foot. Sorry Blue Power Ranger. Here’s a final farewell for those who watched Dino Riders.
I guess this is why they’re making another Jurassic Park...called Jurassic World. I hope they get their shit together this time.
You thought you knew how to tie shoes, but you’re living a lie.
So, upon returning to my humble abode, because Barnes and Noble’s Cafe was jam packed full of fucking a million people (all of whom had lap tops and were hogging the outlets) I received an email from my Argentinian Lover: Naty Cakes. I’m going to make a cartoon of her very soon.
It seems that she has discovered a TEDTalk that I have not yet seen. Even more so, this particular TEDTalk, led by Terry Moore, has completely punched my childhood directly in the face and proven that I have been living a lie.
I thought I knew how to tie my shoe laces, but I was so damn wrong…
WHY WOULD ANYONE TEACH PEOPLE A WEAK KNOT ? SERIOUSLY??? All those times I tripped because my shoe laces were untied, they could have all been avoided!!! O GOD WHY.
Terry Moore is the director of the New York based Radius Foundation, which seeks “to create better understanding of traditional, classical, and modern worldviews.” It’s got some interesting stuff on their site if you have a few minutes to snoop around on it.
Anyway, now you know how to tie your shoes the sturdy way. You’re welcome.
Smart Phone Ad
This Motorola commercial made me laugh lol, I love TJ Miller! The first time I remember seeing him was in Cloverfield (aka, the movie everyone makes fun of me for enjoying). I recently watched My Idiot Brother (available on Netflix, so, shout out for those who are curious and want to watch it) which was an EXCELLENT movie :3 Anyway, Paul Rudd and TJ Miller have some cute chemistry in that movie.
My brother linked me some of TJ Miller’s stand up, so here I am passing it along to all you beautiful sunflowers:
Anyway, I have some online homework to do… this is the kind of exciting life that I live. Try not to be jealous.
